Doctor Ingeniero de Telecomunicación

Graduated in Telecommunication Engineering in 1993, he obtained the PhD in the same field in 2001, both titles from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). He was a member of the Image Processing Group of the UPM (1993-2002) and an Assistant Professor at the UPM (1997-2002), and he is Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid (since 2003), where he jointly coordinates the Video Processing and Understanding Lab.
His research interests include video sequence analysis, content-based video indexing, 2D and 3D computer vision, etc. He has been involved in European projects related to museums (eg, RACE-Rama), education (eg, ET-Trends), audiovisual content analysis (eg, ACTS-Hypermedia, ICTS-AceMedia and Mesh), virtual reality (eg, IST) -Slim-VRT), etc., and in national projects, both in the framework of public calls for R&D&i and in the framework of collaborations with the private sector, leading work teams, several doctoral theses, and giving rise to more than fifty publications in conferences and scientific journals. He is a regular evaluator of calls for national and international projects (ICIP, ICASSP, CBMI, SAMT, etc.), and articles sent to conferences and journals (IEEE Tr. On CSVT, Tr. On Multimedia, Tr. On Image Processing, etc.).
Within his management activity he has held the post of Deputy Director of Postgraduate and New Degrees of the Polytechnic School (EPS-UAM) (2008-2012), the coordination of the Doctoral Program in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications, the position of Secretary of the Department of Electronic Technology and Communications (2012-2014), and Vice-Rector of Postgraduate Studies of the Autonomous University of Madrid (2014-2017), with competences in Doctoral Schools and Doctorate Programs.
